One of the primarily residential areas of the Northgate district, the official boundaries of Pinehurst extend from I-5 to 15th Ave NE and Northgate Way to NE 145th according to the Seattle City Clerk’s Neighborhood Map Atlas (including Jackson Park). However the Pinehurst Community Council defines the boundaries as 5th Ave NE (I-5) to Lake City Way, and Northgate Way to NE 130th (including portions of Victory Heights and Olympic Hills). Given the sign at the bottom of the hill of NE 115th & 25th Ave NE, it seems that a reasonable neighborhood definition is the Pinehurst Community definition excluding the area from Northgate Way to NE 115th between 15th Ave NE and Lake City Way (properly part of Victory Heights) and from 25th Ave NE to Lake City Way (part of Lake City) as well as the area from 125th to 130th from 15th Ave NE to Lake City Way which is properly part of Olympic Hills.
Pinehurst Way NE, a diagonal street running from Roosevelt & NE 113th to 17th Ave NE and NE 124th defines the center of the neighborhood. In addition to all of the shopping north of Northgate Way, 15th Ave NE from NE 117th to NE 125th is another commercial strip. Neighborhood parks include the Pinehurst Playfield, Pinehurst Pocket Park and Victory Creek Park, along with Thornton Creek Park #1 just north of the normally recognized boundary next to Jackson Park Golf Course.
AS #1 K-8 @ Pinehurst is located in the center of the neighborhood, but official elementary schools are Olympic View Elementary and Sacajawea Elementary located further south in Maple Leaf. Middle school students are served by Eckstein and with high school students going to Nathan Hale.
The 77 express route serves downtown commuters along 15th Ave NE (30 minutes). The 41 provides service to Northgate along NE 125th and 5th Ave NE with express service downtown on I-5 from the Northgate Transit Center. The 347 and 348 provide access to Northgate along 15th Ave NE. Access to the UW is also provided by the 73 and 373 along 15th (20-25 min).
For Real Estate searches make sure to include Northgate and possibly Jackson Park, Victory Heights, Olympic Hills and Lake City when attempting to locate homes in Pinehurst.
