Roosevelt Neighborhood

Named after Teddy Roosevelt shortly after his death in 1919, the Roosevelt neighborhood is home to a thriving commercial district centered along Roosevelt Way NE & NE 65^th.  It features a Whole Foods supermarket, numerous ethnic or vegetarian restaurants and audio row with Car Toys and other retailers of high-end audio equipment.  The normally recognized boundaries are I-5 in the west, Ravenna Ave NE in the south, 15^th Ave NE in the east and Lake City Way in the north. The official Seattle City Clerk’s Neighborhood Map Atlas extends the northern boundary into Maple Leaf up to 85^th and includes the eastern section from NE 75^th up to NE 85^th and 15^th Ave NE to 20^th Ave NE.  Major N-S arterials include Roosevelt Ave NE (essentially 10^th) which is one way southbound , 12^th Ave NE which is one-way northbound and 15^th Ave NE.  NE 65^th & NE 75^th are the main E-W arterials, with Lake City Way NE on the north and NE Ravenna Blvd on the southern boundary.

Roosevelt High School is known as the best public high school in Seattle for academics, as well as a nationally-recognized jazz band.  Eckstein serves area middle school students and Green Lake Elementary, west of I-5, serves primary school students (with the exception of the small portion between 15^th & 20^th Ave NE served by Wedgwood Elementary).

Cowen Park is just across 15^th Ave NE from Ravenna Park and will soon include a daylighted section of Ravenna Creek.  Another park is the Froula Playground near the water reservoir.  Along NE Banner Pl, there are two little green spaces at Banner Triangles and Rainbow Point. 

The Roosevelt Neighborhood Association is very active with an up-to-date website. Current planning activities are focused around the Link Light Rail station set to begin construction shortly in the Roosevelt district.  Current mass transit options include the 66, 67 & 68 buses between Northgate and UW, the 79, 76 & 64 along NE 65^th, and the 73 along 15^th Ave NE
